   У дисертації здійснюється обґрунтування та побудова теоретико–методологічної схеми вимірювання категорій "історична ідентичність" та "політичні орієнтації". Розкриваються механізми формування історичної ідентичності на макро-, мезо- і мікрорівнях у діахронному зрізі, де макрорівень – це офіційні моделі історичного минулого у промовах Президента, мезорівень – регіональні медіа-дискурси, мікрорівень – персональні уявлення про значущі елементи історичного минулого: свята, історичні особи і події. Здійснено теоретичну інтерпретацію й емпіричний аналіз зв’язку регіональних особливостей історичної ідентичності з процесами формування політичних орієнтацій мешканців Львова й Донецька, їх соціально-демографічними характеристиками.

   В диссертации обосновывается и предлагается теоретико-методологическая схема измерения категорий "историческая идентичность" и "политические ориентации". Раскрываются механизмы формирования исторической идентичности на макро-, мезо- и микроуровнях в диахронном срезе, где макроуровень – это официальные модели исторического прошлого в обращениях Президента, мезоуровень – региональные медиа-дискурсы, а микроуровень – персональные представления о значимых элементах исторического прошлого: праздниках, исторических персоналиях и событиях. Проводится теоретическая интерпретация и эмпирический анализ связи региональных особенностей исторической идентичности с процессами формирования политических ориентаций жителей Львова и Донецка, их социально-демографическими характеристиками.

Sereda V.V. Regional Differences in Historical Identities and Their Impact on the Formation of Current Political Orientations in Ukraine. – Manuscript.

   The dissertation deals with the development of complex, conceptual approach to the study of regional differences in historical identities and their impact on political orientations in Ukraine. Author argues for a need for introduction of a new concept of “historical identity” and makes its theoretical interpretation. A theoretical and methodological scheme of its measuring is conceptualized. A special focus is made on the explanation of mechanisms of shaping and reproduction of historical identity on macro-, meso- and micro–levels in diachronic dimension, where macro-level is represented by the official models of past constructed and replicated by speeches of the President of Ukraine, meso-level – by the regional media–discourses and micro-level – by personal opinions on what are the most significant elements of historical past, represented by holidays (traditional Ukrainian, new Ukrainian and Soviet), historical personalities (described as positive or negative) and historical events (also described as positive or negative).
   The reconstruction of the three main aspects of historical identity (such as holidays, personalities and main period/events) demonstrates that the institutionalization of the historical identity is tailored to regional experiences. Regionally based historical identities and localized historical experiences are most entirely represented in media-discourse, during commemorations, and in opinions of Lviv and Donetsk region inhabitants. Each region focuses on its own “regional” calendar. Lviv and Donetsk still have different and almost mutually exclusive visions of national history. On the other hand, some slight tendency to reconciliation of both regions’ historical and national identities can be observed and official historical discourse plays essential role in this process. The most striking change is that less inhabitants of Donetsk consider now Ukraine’s independence and existence of the Ukrainian National Republic as non-important historical events. One may subscribe this change to official celebration of the Ukraine’s Independence Day and to recurrent official recognition of the political UNR leaders as forerunners of President Kuchma in his official speeches. At the same time repertoire of holidays, historical events and personalities is more limited in Donetsk media-discourse. One may speak of their underrepresentation in media that is reflected in historical identities of the inhabitants of Donetsk.
   A connection between respondents’ preferences on some models of national past and their social-demographic characteristics (age and nationality) was examined. Strong intergenerational solidarity can be found both in Lviv and Donetsk. As the analysis reveals, differences in the structure of historical identities demonstrated by Ukrainians and Russians in Donetsk are minimal. At the same time, in Lviv the Soviet model of national past is more significant for Russians, and Ukrainian model of national past for Ukrainians. Consequently historical identity in Donetsk is shaped not along the lines of national solidarity, as one may expect, but rather along the regional ones. In Lviv instead, one may define the mixed type of national-regional solidarity, involved in shaping of historical identity.
   Theoretical interpretation and analysis (based on empirical research materials) of correlations between regional differences of historical identities and process of the shaping of political orientations of inhabitants of Lviv and Donetsk was completed in the dissertation. As it was proved by the analysis, political orientations focusing on international relations showed the strongest correlation coefficients. There was a clear cut division between people who support “Ukrainian history model”, who want to build security relations with USA and NATO and see future development of Ukraine in progress towards EU; and those, who prefer “Soviet history model”, want Ukraine to build its security relations with Russian or CIS primary and much strongly support unification with Russia.
